Paul M. de Gannes – Managing Director/Owner of Parkat Engineering Limited (P.E.L.)

 This company was founded by Paul Matthew de Gannes whose idea arose as a result of a profound desire to continue to be a part of the industry of which he has been a part of for over fifty (50) years and, in so doing, to give back to the industry. There is also the desire to assist in the mentoring and training of young people in welding, fabricating and the other related engineering skills in the community of Siparia where he has lived and been a part of, for over sixty five (65) years. Not wanting to be an economic spectator, he thought that a contribution can be made to the national good by investing in such an enterprise so that tangible and intangible benefits can be realized in his lifetime and beyond. This Company is the vehicle that can be used in generating these training and employment opportunities to assist in developing our nation’s human capital and in so doing to become a responsible corporate citizen.

As a recently incorporated company we are endeavoring to penetrate the afore-mentioned markets with the care and diligence that it deserves. Our initial target area lies in the following areas and would increase as our asset base and cash flow allows:

• Small and medium sized jobs that involve fabricating, welding and mechanical engineering.
• Quality Assurance/Quality Control Consultancy.
• Welding Engineering Consultancy.
• Development of Procedure Qualification Records (P.Q.R.’s), Welding Procedure Qualification (W.P.S.’s), Welder Testing, Welder Certification (W.P.Q.T.’s), Method Statements, etc.

Parkat Engineering Limited Welding and Fabrication Workshop, Coora Road, Siparia, Trinidad & Tobago

A parcel of land of approximately forty three thousand five hundred and sixty square feet has been acquired at Coora Road in the district of Siparia. A building that measures 92 feet in length by 45 feet in width serves as a workshop with other ancillary assets being attached. The company is capable of conducting works at clients’ facilities or at any site where work is to be done.

Other major investments have been made with the purchase of state of the art welding equipment, both electrical and engine driven and other tools that would meet all industry requirements.

The Key Person in the company has over fifty (50) years experience in the welding industry and previously held  the responsibility of managing the Welding Department of a major welding and mechanical contractor in Trinidad that conducts welding activities throughout Trinidad, Tobago, the wider Caribbean area, Central and South America. This key person is, among his other academic achievements, qualified by the American Welding Society (A.W.S.) as a Certified Welding Inspector (C.W.I.) and has widespread support and respect by his peers in the local and international welding industry.

P.E.L. successfully completed the construction of the Catwalk that provides access for the W.A.S.A. Plant Operators at the Clarifiers of the Aripo Reservoir. The job involved the preparation of Engineering Drawings, Fabrication, Welding and Erection of the Units. All activities were done safely, with the utmost quality, within budget and the scheduled time.

P.E.L. was engaged in a Joint Venture arrangement with High Tower Hydraulics Limited (H.T.H.L.) to repair and improve the operability of the National Energy Corporation (N.E.C.) Iron Ore Shiploader on Pier No. 4 at the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in the years 2011 to 2012. Six (6) Berthing Platforms were also fabricated, welded, painted and installed on the quay wall of SP 4 during periodic intervals in  the years 2014, 2015 and 2016. 

Currently, P.E.L. is engaged in conducting Inconel overlays, with the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process, on many different types of oilfield equipment, for IAL Engineering Limited.

Parkat Engineering Limited, in collaboration with Team Industrial Services Incorporated (T.I.S.I), conducted 100% weld repairs on the new Carbon Dioxide refrigeration piping system of the Chickmont Processing Plant in Barbados. All new welds and weld repairs were successfully completed with the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process. The weld butts ranged in the various sizes from 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1 1/2″, 2″, 4″, 6″ & 8″ in diameter.
